Why Air Maui?
“Think of the helicopter as a magic carpet that transports you not just to another world, but another time.”
Fun and Friendly People Make the Difference.
The Air Maui Experience begins long before you board a helicopter. When you first step into our terminal at Kahului Heliport, you know you’re among friends. Our welcoming and professional staff greet every passenger and personally assist with check-in. As you flight is prepared, relax in our comfortable terminal or browse through our retail shop, which features genuine Air Maui clothing and souvenirs.
Experience Makes the Difference
Our pilots are experienced professionals with thousands of hours of flight time, and are trained to the demanding standards of Steve Egger, Air Maui’s owner and Chief Pilot.
Being the best is just the first step; our pilots must also excel at being your personal guide, entertaining and informing you about Maui’s history, geology, flora and fauna as you soar above fantastic landscapes.
Quality and Safety Make the Difference
In aviation, quality and safety are paramount. At Air Maui, the proof is in our record: over ten years of perfect safety. That's not luck - it's the combined commitment of professional pilots and top-notch aircraft maintenance personnel.
At each day’s end, an entirely new crew takes charge of the aircraft. Our FAA-certified and factory-trained mechanics inspect and maintain our helicopters to ensure that every component, every system, meets the highest standards of safety and quality. Our standards are simple: “If it’s not perfect, it doesn’t fly.”
The Air Maui Story
On September 11, 1992, Hurricane Iniki demolished the island of Kauai, destroying the island’s visitor industry as well.
The disaster prompted Steve Egger, a partner in the helicopter company Air Kauai, to make a tough choice: Sit out the long recovery, or move. Economics prevailed; Steve left Air Kauai to open his own company. In the wake of Hurricane Iniki, Air Maui was born.
The Air Maui story actually began years earlier. In 1974, a young warrant officer had just returned from Viet Nam, where he’d flown the famous Huey helicopter in combat operations. Determined that flying be his future, Steve worked his way up the civilian ranks as a helicopter pilot.
Steve’s vision was to create an adventure helicopter company unlike any other - one where the ride was part of a larger experience. “Think of the helicopter as a magic carpet that transports you not just to another world, but another time.”
Today, after 10 years flying Maui and Molokai, Air Maui is Hawaii’s premier helicopter company when it comes to fun, adventure and customer satisfaction.
